Anna Ancher: The Pastels

Anna Ancher (1859-1935) was a pioneer in Scandinavian pastel drawing.  Even today, she is considered one of the finest practitioners of this tecnique which had a renaissance in the 1880s. Her painting box with French pastel colours can still be found in her museum at the Anna and Michael Ancher House in Skagen. 

Anna Ancher's pastels represent a central part of her art. This volume is a systematic study, presenting 25 of her best pastels.
Elisabeth Fabritius is an art historian whose work on the painters of Skagen in the classical period fra 1880 to 1920 began more than 4o years ago. In this volume, her research brings us closer to the artistic intentions in the art of Anna Ancher than what we can find in her oil paintings.
