Guide to Danish Architecture is a two-volume series that covers the period from around the year 1000 to 1995. The first volume ends in around 1960, when the industrialization of the building took hold in earnest, and in a few years changed the conditions for the creation of architecture.
Vol. 1 covers some 300 buildings throughout the country, arranged chronologically.
The guide concentrates on special themes, for example building types - Medieval churches, Copenhagen's Neo-Classicist conflagration houses - but unique works are treated independently, for example Amalienborg and Frederiksstaden.
The chronological order is occasionally interrupted if geographical proximity or other factors demand that several topics be dealt with collectively.
Together, the two guides, with their 1,800 illustrations, provide a concentrated history of architecture in Denmark - the largest of its kind ever published.
